Missed the Dublin leg of the UFC World Tour? You missed this from Conor McGregor!!
Posted by UFC on Tuesday, March 31, 2015It took a while, but Jose Aldo finally snapped. The UFC Featherweight Champion has been getting steadily more pissed off with Conor McGregor over their 10 city 12 day media tour to promote their upcoming fight, and yesterday, he finally had enough. It can't have been easy for Aldo these past 2 weeks. Everywhere he's gone, there's McGregor. His upcoming opponent. Shouting in his face. Calling him every name under the sun. Insulting him at every turn. Grabbing his neck. Generally being a pain in the ass. And for the most part, Aldo didn't respond. He was cool, calm, collected. He'd whip out his straight up gangster death stare every so often, but most of the time he just looked bored, like he couldn't wait for the whole circus to draw to a close so he could get home to his family. It was different in Dublin yesterday though. In front of a few thousand vociferous Irish people in Dublin, Aldo rose to McGregor. The Notorious played his role to perfection, grabbing Aldo's belt following the Brazilian's assertion that he, not McGregor, was the king of Dublin. And for Aldo, it was a step too far. Were it not for the not insignificant frame of UFC president Dana White in between them, it could have come to blows. In fact, it probably would have. The cool, calm, collected gangster was gone. This was a Jose Aldo full of rage, 12 days of built up aggression finally about to come out. Several stage hands and Dana himself diffused the situation before it descended into a Jones/Cormier style brawl, with Aldo screaming at McGregor trying to get his belt back and McGregor whipping the crowd into a frenzy. It was superb theatre. A moment that will be replayed again and again and again ahead of their bout on July 11th. Aldo is pissed off. McGregor has played his wind up merchant role to perfection. I can't wait to see these two go at it in Vegas in a few months time.
