North City & District Sports Award - Crucible Snooker Club

Crucible Snooker Club are the latest winners of the North City & District Sports Award, sponsored by the Ambassador Hotel in Association with Award Sponsors Gurranabraher Credit Union and Cork's RedFM. It is the first time that snooker has been rewarded in the very successful North City & District Sports Awards celebrating five years in existence and going from strength to strength. The club was opened in 1984 by owner Jim Hussey, the Crucible on Nicholas Well Lane, off Blarney Street on the North side of the city, is the longest running commercial club in Cork City and County, boasting 9 full size championship tables and 2 pool tables, set in warm, friendly and relaxed surroundings. The club is home to a number of Irish Internationals, both at underage and senior levels, who have all represented their country at European, home nation or World level, namely: Greg Casey, David Cassidy, Ryan Cronin and Daniel O’Regan. This list has been added to very recently, with the recent announcement of Sean Burns making the Irish U-16 team, thus continuing the proud tradition of Crucible players making the international stage. The club have had a very successful 2013 so far, with a clean sweep of all team trophies at both Cork and Munster level Winner - Cork Billiard and Snooker Association ‘A’ League (CBSA) (5 man team event) Winner - Cork Billiard and Snooker Association ‘B’ League (CBSA) (5 man team event) Winner - Munster Snooker Club Championships (CBSA) (5 man team event) Winner - Cork Billiard and Snooker Association Orme Shield (3 man team event) Greg Casey was on the Irish International Senior Team who won the ‘Prince of Wales Shield’, a tournament consisting of all the home nations ... England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, 2013 was truly an unprecedented year for the club.
