LISTEN BACK: Eileen Madden of Pro Musica spoke to Neil about re-opening the store and making sure all safety measures are in place
Eileen Madden, Owner Pro Musica, spoke to Neil this morning. She said getting people to maintain social distancing in store is an issue. Kids come in, in their droves and older people are just as bad in not maintaining space. People don’t understand that they need to hand sanitizer before even picking up a plectrum. Eileen and her other 3 employees kept working throughout Covid 19. They did a lot of sales online with music books and repairs for old instruments that people plucked out of the attic during lockdown. Education facilities were big business for Pro Musica but their online activity helped keep them afloat. On the 7 April the Pro Musica website was hacked and had to be rebuilt from scratch. The store is probably in a slightly better position than some as Eileen has owned her own building for the past 3 years. While there is an easing on rates at present she says if she had rent to pay on top of that the business may not have reopened.
