Zig & Zag Join KC Tomorrow Morning - Here's A Look Back At Their Career

Zig and Zag from planet Zog were an Irish institution after debuting on Dempsey's Den in 1987 on RTÉ. Zig and Zag's first single "The Christmas No.1" reached No.1 in Ireland at Christmas 1990 and stayed there for five weeks. The puppets hit the big time in 1992 after exiting The Den and joining The Big Breakfast on Channel 4 with Chris Evans exclusively where they had a regular segment on the show. During their time on the show they managed to score a top five single in the UK with Them Girls, Them Girls.

While they were on The Big Breakfast they interviewed the likes of Ant & Dec in their Byker Grove days as PJ and Duncan, The Spice Girls and even international stars like Robin Williams!

The alien pairing also appeared on ads for Yoplait during the 90's.

After a Big Breakfast revamp, the puppets were dropped and given their own Zig and Zag Show for a younger audience on ITV. Here's an interview they had with Melissa Joan Hart who was playing the role of Sabrina The Teenage Witch, which at the time was one of the most popular shows for younger people.

In 2001 Zig and Zig came back to RTE to present 2Phat with Ray D'arcy and Dustin The Turkey. Dustin had some choice words for his puppet pals upon their return to Ireland.

The duo also appeared on Big Brother's Little Brother on Channel 4 to interview past contestants and do pieces for Big Brother's digital content.

In 2010 they had their own 2FM radio show called Smells Like Saturday.

Another return to RTÉ saw Zig and Zag co-hosting Superbloopers with Aidan Power which showed funny home videos.

The pair appeared on the new episodes of TFI Friday on Channel 4 after taking part in the original season of the show in 1996 with Chris Evans once again.

Zig and Zag have now been turned into 2D animated characters for a children's show on CBBC and RTE.
