149 new Coronavirus hospital admissions in the last 24 hours

Over 1,800 people are currently hospitalised with Covid-19. 

The figure includes 169 people who are in intensive care. 

1,838 people are currently hospitalised with Covid-19, with 149 new admissions in the last 24 hours. 

Respiratory consultant Bon Secours Hospital Cork Dr Oisin O’Connell, says the third wave is putting more pressure on the system than previous waves. 

"The rate at which people is being admitted is higher.

"There's also a lot more healthcare staff that have been exposed, or are close contacts."
