Borrowers will now be able to apply for a payment break up to the end of September

The move was announced by the European Banking Authority.

Up to now, applications for a break were allowed up to the end of June.

The Irish Banking and Payments Federation is welcoming the development.

It says demand for mortgage payment breaks is now just 3% of what it was at the peak of the pandemic.
