Cabinet Ministers considering extending protection from eviction for people economically hit by COVID

It will extend the measure that had been due to expire next month until July.

However, the overall ban on evictions will only remain in place until the 5km travel restrictions expire.

Sinn Féin's Housing spokesperson Eoin O'Broin says all evictions bans should be extended: "Our view in fact is they need to extend that ban to the end of the year, because it's not just about the 5km travel restrictions or the health implications of COVID it's also about the economic impacts for workers who've been laid off and therefore we'd like to see it extended to year's end, but we still believe the government should also reintroduce the ban on rent increases."
