Call for young people to be given AstraZeneca vaccine

A UCC professor says young people should be given the AstraZeneca vaccine. 

It comes as the Chief Medical Officer is to discuss with NIAC, the possibility of lowering the age restrictions on giving the Asta Zeneca jab to 
people under 50.

Liam Fanning, Professor of Immunovirology at UCC, says the age limit should be reconsidered, as long as the second dose is a Pfizer vaccine.

"Young people should be vaccinated, but if they're going to use the AstraZeneca vaccinations that are available - that should be used in combination with a Pfizer second shot."
