Chief Medical Officer says people should not use shop-bought Covid testing kits

Last week, NPHET warned people about antigen tests being sold by supermarket chain Lidl

t says the tests are less reliable than those used by medical staff.

Dr Tony Holohan is urging the public to avoid using tests sold in shops altogether:

"So our clear advice and the advice of the HSC, is that the antigen test that you can buy in shops and cameras and so on, to administer to yourself at home. You shouldn't use them if the evidence in relation to that changes will change your advice, but on the basis of our assessment of the evidence that's my clear public health advice if you can buy this antigen test in your local shop, you simply shouldn't use it."
