Cork funeral director says Covid restrictions are having a huge impact on mourning the loss of loved ones

Under the current restrictions only 10 people can attend a funeral, and calls have been made for this to be be amended given the capacity of most churches.

However the restrictions are set to remain in place until March 5th.

Speaking to RedFM News Robert Gabriel of Gabriel & O'Donovan funeral home in Bandon says for those who are burying a family member who has died of COVID19, the process of saying goodbye can be even more difficult:

"It's very difficult under government regulation again, that we are not allowed to have the coffin opened and it's difficult then for a family to try and say the goodbye in that fashion. And, you know, embalming is not recommended, and certainly viewing is not recommended. It can be very difficult, you know. It can be even more difficult with Covid funerals than any other funeral. You know, families have gone through a lot of trauma, prior to the death happening at all. And, you know, this is just even more difficult then to try and entertain all this and to try to deal with it."
