A Cork hairdresser says he's booked out until June and will be working until midnight many nights to try and clear the backlog.

Hairdressers and barbers Leeside are welcoming back clients after being closed since Christmas eve as restrictions eased today.

Meanwhile some stores are welcoming customers back on appointment-basis only, including Pennys which reopened here in Cork at 7am.

"It's wonderful. I'm just in the middle of my fourth haircut, I'm here since half past seven this morning there was three people waiting outside the door and the excitement is unbelievable. One of my regulars is here now for the last 35 years, and she's thrilled. Bookings are crazy I'm booked out now until June. And I'm talking about 12 o'clock at night finishing tonight but half past 11,maybe 12 o'clock in again tomorrow morning at half past seven. Same again 12 o'clock. And now we have a waiting list."
