CUH Professor Feels Privileged To Be The First Person In Cork To Get Covid-19 Vaccine.

Professor Mary Horgan was the first of 15 staff at the hospital to receive the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine yesterday.

Health Minister Stephen Donnelly says 20,000 people will be vaccinated by the middle of next month.

The rollout of the first batch of Pfizer vaccines is continuing at hospitals across Dublin, Cork and Galway, with 2,000 doses due to be administered in the next few days.

Speaking to RedFM News, Professor Mary Horgan says the vaccine will save lives:

"I have seen and continue to see people die of vaccine preventable illnesses like meningitis. So, to get it, I was absolutely delighted and privileged to be the first in Cork to get it. So I would encourage people, when it is available, that they really should step up to the plate and get it. It protects them, their family, their friends and community and gets the country up and running again."
