Head of seven public hospitals believes the country has passed peak of third wave of Covid-19

Latest figures show there are 1,368 patients in public hospitals with the virus - compared to a peak across the health system of 2,020 over two weeks ago.

207 people were in ICU overnight.

Tony Canavan, the chief executive of the Saolta Group, says there's been an improvement in the hospitals in the west of Ireland:

"What we've seen over the last seven days is that the position across all of our hospital sites has improved a bit. We probably hit the peak of the third wave of COVID-19 in around a week to 10 days ago, and things have steadied off and start to improve slightly since that."
