Health Experts Have Hit Out After Plans For A 'Zero Covid' Country Were Dismissed

A campaign advocating for Zero Covid in Ireland has been launched today

A group of scientists and health experts say the strategy could help the country return to relative normality until vaccinations are completed.

Paul O’Donoghue reports.

'A group of scientists and academics today launch a new campaign advocating for Zero Covid in Ireland. The 'We Can Be Zero' strategy calls for tighter restrictions, such as quarantining all international travelers, until new virus cases go to zero. It has been dismissed by officials from NPHET, and Ryanair boss Michael O’Leary also says it won’t work. But Tomas Ryan, a neuroscientist at Trinity College, says the strategy can be a success. The Independent Scientific Advocacy Group, which is behind the Zero Covid strategy, says it is the only way to prevent the cycle of national lockdowns until vaccines are rolled out.'
