Hundreds Of Jobs Could Be Lost Leeside, As Aer Lingus Looks At Compulsory Redundancies

The airline could close its bases at Cork and Shannon

350 roles could go between the two bases, as part of plans to cut almost 500 jobs.

The airline is blaming the impact of what it calls the "most restrictive travel policies in Europe" on the Irish aviation sector, with Aer Lingus reporting a loss of almost 316 million euro so far this year.

The news comes as management at Cork Aiport call for a stimulus package to help it survive the fallout from COVID19.

Passenger numbers are down 95% on this time last year, and an estimated €23 million in revenue is expected to be lost by year-end.

Cork South-Central TD Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire has called on the Government to intervene, saying the loss of the Aer Lingus base in Cork cannot be contemplated.
