Immunologist wants to see those given their first AstraZeneca vaccine dose topped up with either Pfizer of Moderna for their second jab

Professor Kingston Mills says it's one way to provide additional protection against the Delta variant

It comes as the Chief Medical Officer is to consult with NIAC on the issue of using AstraZeneca and Johnson and Johnson vaccines for younger groups.

Professor Mills from Trinity College Dublin says a mixing of the vaccines can provide additional protection:

"People with underlying medical conditions are still waiting for the second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine, and they're vulnerable now at this stage, because if the Delta variant increases, they could be vulnerable to getting infected, and developing COVID-19, so that's a concern for them. I mean one solution this of course is to boost them with a mRNA vaccine."
