Irish Travel Agents Association CEO: EU's Digital Travel Cert Only Way To Open Countries For Tourism

That's according to the CEO of the Irish Travel Agents Association, who says tourism needs to be consistent across the EU

The comment comes as Portugal confirms it will welcome travellers from most European countries from Monday, including for non-essential visits.

Tourists must be from an EU country that has a covid-19 rates of below 500 cases per 100,000 population.

Ireland's 14 day incidence rate as of Thursday is 129.3 per 100,000 people.

Pat Dawson from the Irish Travel Agents Association, says people need certainty before they travel:

"There's nothing worse than uncertainty and inconsistency if people want to travel. You don't want a situation where people are going on holidays, and the next thing in the middle of it, something goes red or whatever else. So we need consistency. The EU's digital concert, I think it's the only way to get countries open, and in particular to get Ireland open."
