McGuinness Says EU Commission Doesn't Want Dramatic Increase In Non-Performing Loans Over Coming Months

There's concern about a potential rise as support measures for borrowers during the pandemic come to an end
Speaking at a meeting of EU ministers in Portgual, Financial Services Commissioner Mairead McGuinness says they're trying to avoid major issues:
"We have literally since last year been saying to borrowers and lenders, speak to each other so that we avoid problems. We don't want to see a dramatic rise in non-performing loans, that's key. However, we do expect there will be some increase in non-performing loans, and therefore we are looking carefully at how that can be managed."
