Ministers to meet later to discuss reopening of schools and State Exams

Some Ministers will meet later to discuss the reopening of schools and the future of the State Exams in the summer.

The Cabinet sub-Committee on Education are considering plans for a phased return for students - particularly those with additional educational needs.

Meanwhile, the Education Minister is facing increasing calls from students to give clarity on the Leaving and Junior Cert, with just over four months to go until the first exam is due to begin.

President of the ASTI is Ann Piggot - she says teachers would prefer written exams with a lot of choice for students;

"Fully aware that people have missed a lot of face-to-face teaching so we would like modified papers, to the point where it would be doable, it wouldn't cause too much anxiety, there would be plenty of choice for students to omit certain areas of the curriculum as they require and as they need"
