"People will express their views at the ballot box if they don't listen" - Politicians urged to listen to public calls for tougher measures to suppress the coronavirus

The Independent Scientific Advisory Group is proposing an all Ireland Zero COVID approach, which it says, will reduce the need for repeated lockdowns.

Some members say the government kicked the issue to touch with the extension to the current lockdown and additional restrictions on international travel.

Public health expert, Dr Gabriel Scally says if the policy doesn't change, people will judge politicians at the next election, "If we go on like this, we're going to be looking back on this, this is most cataclysmic event in the country's history for such a long time. And we're going to be looking back on it, and we are going to be seeing, politicians who were tested and found wanting, people will express their views at the ballot box if they don't listen to the people."
