Public health expert says there's a risk there'll be another pandemic in the future

Professor Anthony Staines says Covid-19 could have been contained at an early stage, without getting out of control in different countries

He isn't in favour of the centralised approach by the HSE in contact tracing and IT systems and says using local public health departments would be better.

Professor Staines of DCU says they've helped drive down the virus in other countries:

"The local public health departments have been largely left as that process in countries have had better responses to COVID and we have local public health departments, one way or another, have been the heart of the process, and they've driven the contact tracing the source investigation. The support that isolation, all the things we need to stop virus spreading in our community."
