Residents Association near College say they will take action if houses are let out for summer parties

A city centre residents association say they will stand firm and take action if need be, in their strong opposition to houses being let out in their area for the purpose of summer parties
The Magazine Road and Surrounding Areas Residents Association say they have been made aware of a strong demand from young people for summer lets in their area and they are appealing to landlords not to make their properties available for house parties in the height of a pandemic
Chairperson of the Association Catherine Clancy says some irresponsible landlords in their area are more interested in the extra income they can generate rather that the health of people
Speaking to RedFM News Catherine Clancy says it's totally irresponsible for landlords to let out these multiple occupancy houses to new tenants; "I really believe that there are some landlords, not all [but] some landlords, and while they have a responsibility to manage their properties the only thing they manage is the bank accounts, they're uncontactable, and that can't be seen when there's any issues to do with the houses re the maintenance, management or upkeep or standards within the house, you know, last year we had to go into court, you know, we're just an ordinary residents group but we had to go into court, a financial cost to the residence here, but in order to get a night's sleep. That's wrong. And the landlords that you know subject us to that at this stage they need to be fined and prosecuted."
