Rush Back To Retailers Not As High This Week Compared To Previous Re-Openings

That's according to Retail Excellence, which says shops in small towns and shopping centres have had a better first week back than stores in urban cities

Retailers in city centres should see more footfall when hospitality is allowed to reopen.

Monday was the first time this year non-essential retail was allowed return, following a week of appointment and click and collect shopping.

Managing Director of Retail Excellence, Duncan Graham, says click and collect took some of the heat out of reopening:

"Last week with the click-and-collect and the opening for the shopping by appointment, that certainly gave some of the larger retailers, like pennies and so on, the opportunity to get going. So that's taken some of the heat out. The reality is it's made it a little bit easier, and it means that the crowds aren't necessarily in the way that we've seen them in the past, with the re-openings."
