Two thirds of men 'drinking to cope' during pandemic

Two thirds of men are drinking to cope during Covid-19, according to new research from Drinkaware.

57% of men reported to drinking weekly compared to 48% of women.

The study also found men are more than twice as likely to report binge drinking four or more times in a month.

Drinkaware chief executive Sheena Horgan says it's not just young men who are drinking to cope.

"Particularly with drinking to cope, that age group would be 25-34 year olds, but also 35-49 year olds during Covid-19.

"So we can see that the older age groups are under serious stress pressure, as indeed we all are to a certain degree anyway at this time."
