UCC Public Health Expert Says Slight Rise In Delta Variant In Ireland Is 'Real Worry' Given Trends In UK

There were 126 cases of the Delta strain here by May 29th - which is reported to be an increase of ten

It comes as 319 new cases of Covid 19 have been confirmed here and 54 patients are in hospital - the lowest in almost 9 months.

Professor Ivan Perry of UCC says the Delta mutation in the UK is a concern given the number travelling to the Republic:

"Such is the concern in the UK about the rise of the Delta Variant, that there is a strong possibility that they will delay some parts of their reopening in June. And of course, that has to be a huge concern for Ireland given the level of traffic and travel between Ireland and the UK."
