Vaccine rollout for over 85s set to begin this month

The Minister for Older People says the vaccination of over-85s is expected to go ahead as planned this month.

The Minister for Older People says the vaccination of over-85s is expected to go ahead as planned this month.

That's despite a decision not to use the AstraZeneca vaccine for over-70s in the majority of circumstances.

GPs say they will be able to get over the logistical challenges of using the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines which need to be stored at much lower temperatures.

Minister for Older People Mary Butler says the government is awaiting an update from the vaccines taskforce.

"The high level Taskforce is meeting today as we speak to look at this.

"But my understanding is that those ahead over 85 who are to commence the vaccine in mid February that will go ahead.

"I know from speaking to my constituents that the GPs and their staff have been very active in putting together these lists."
