10 Leinster House Interns With Intellectual Disabilities Are Being Paid With Lunch Money

This is despite a government policy against unpaid internships

According to The Sunday Times, the ten are part of the Oireachtas Work and Learn Scheme (OWL) which involves working 6 and a half hour days, five days a week for a year.

The scheme was launched in September alongside charities Walk and Care.

A spokesperson for the Oireachtas told the paper participants are un-paid because it's a "work experience programme" and "not a conventional internship."
