17 schools in disadvantaged areas across Cork to benefit from extension to meal programme
The school meals programme is being extended to an extra 47 thousand pupils in the Autumn.
An additional 3.2 million euro is being spent on breakfast and lunch clubs in 65 new DEIS (pron: DESH) schools serving 12 thousand children, and 180 non-DEIS schools with 35 thousand children.
17 schools in disadvantaged areas across Cork City and County will benefit from the increase in funding, and it's expected several more non DEIS schools will receive some of the funding Leeside.
Minister for Social Protection Leo Varadkar says it’s important that pupils from non-disadvantaged schools are also part of the programme:
