50% Rise In Students Receiving Counselling For Mental Health Problems In Past Decade

Almost 12-thousand students sought counselling in the last academic year, up from about 6-thousand in 2010.
There's been a 50 percent rise in the number of students receiving counselling for mental health problems in the past decade.
Almost 12-thousand students sought counselling in the last academic year, up from about 6-thousand in 2010.
That's according to data compiled by the Psychological Counsellors in Higher Education Ireland.
It comes as both the CIT and UCC student unions declared that their mental health services were at crisis point just three months ago
Meanwhile Anxiety accounted for half of all medical referrals for students last year.
President of the UCC Students Union and mental health advocate, Alan Hayes, says the figures aren't surprising:
