6 Out Of 10 Women And Girls Under 20 Say They Have Been Cat Called In The Previous Week

Half of those who experienced catcalling said it happened a number of times in the previous week.

The survey was carried out by Amarach research for transition year students in a north Dublin school.

The girls in transition year at Maryfield College in Drumcondra wanted to see if their experiences during lockdown were reflected more generally.

Half of those who experienced catcalling said it happened a number of times in the previous week.

Teacher Margaret McLoughlin says the students want to see the issue addressed by the government:

"You know there's literally no legislation against it so. A man can say anything offensive to a girl walking on a street on purpose, and, and there's no legislation against that so they want a discussion about that"
