A Directly-Elected Lord Mayor Will Ensure Cork City Gets The Leadership It Needs As It Grows

That's according to Tánaiste Simon Coveney who says it would give the role longevity
The Tánaiste says it would give the role longevity which will be needed, particularly in the wake of the boundary extension.
It comes after a workshop on the issue was held this week by Cork Mayor Campaign, a cross-party group campaigning for a directly-elected mayor in Cork.
However calls were made at the workshop for clarity on what powers and duties would be entailed in the role.
Speaking to RedFM News Tánaiste Simon Coveney says it will be a positive step towards managing the city's projected growth:
