A Petition Objecting To Closure Of Waterloo Junction Presented To Cork County Council

The turnoff was closed after a number of fatal collisions in recent years. 

However locals say the impact on Blarney and surrounding areas has been devastating and is splitting the community as well as presenting difficulties for school goers in the area. 

Concerns have also been raised about increased volumes of traffic on secondary routes approaching Blarney, which locals say is dangerous as the roads are not able to cope with the traffic volumes.

In a statement issued to RedFM News this week Cork County Council say they acknowledge widespread local opposition to the proposal to close the Waterloo junction and are exploring alternative options in particular a 'Left in and Left out only' option.

Speaking to RedFM News local woman and Chairperson of the Whitechurch parents association Cliona Brown says the knock on effects of the closure are being felt by everyone in the locality:
