A Turtle Has Become One Of The 2.6 Million Passengers Expected To Travel Through Cork Airport This Year
The endangered turtle was swept to Ireland by Atlantic storms
She was found on a beach in Roundstone in Galway in September.
The loggerhead turtle named Mara was barely breathing and suffering from hypothermia when she was found, and has spent the past seven weeks recuperating at a vets hospital in Clifden.
Mara opted against the colder options available as part of Cork Airport's 2019/2020 winter schedule which include Paris, Amsterdam, and London Heathrow.
She was placed on a passenger seat for the 6am Ryanair flight today from Cork Airport to Gran Canaria where she'll go straight to the island's turtle hospital.
