Adrian Moynihan's Family Appeal For Fresh Inquiry Into His Death
The family of a 23 year old man who suffocated inside a nightclub in the city centre 13 years ago during an incident with bouncers is calling for a fresh look at their son's case. Adrian Moynihan from Ballyvolane died on 26th of March 2001 after the incident at Sidetrax nightclub on Grafton Street in the city. His brother Alan says Adrian had been trying to get into the club and after a row with the bouncers on the door, he punched one of them. He was then dragged into the club and subsequently died of asphyxia after a struggle with bouncers. Three years ago Dr Myra Cullinane the Cork City Coroner urged the DPP to re-examine the case saying new evidence had emerged. However the DPP determined that no-one was to be prosecuted and Adrian's death was deemed to be misadventure.
