Alan Shatter Denies Garda Checkpoint Claim

Alan Shatter's issued a statement denying that he was stopped at a Garda checkpoint between the holding of the 2011 General Election and the time he was appointed as Justice Minister. The issue was raised in the Dail by Independent TD Mattie McGrath. However, the Minister has revealed that he was asked for a breath sample when stopped at a mandatory checkpoint in Dublin in either late 2008 or in 2009. In his statement, Alan Shatter says that he was unable to provide the breath sample because he is asthmatic, and was then waved on after explaining that he was on his way home from the Dail. The Minister says there was 'no question' that he had consumed any alcohol or committed any road traffic offence.
