Stephen lost his wife Irene to cervical cancer after misread smear tests

He says yesterday's state apology is only as good as the promise that the mistakes of the past won't be repeated.

Leo Varadkar apologised in the Dáil yesterday afternoon for the "humiliation, the disrespect and deceit" shown to those affected by the misdiagnosis controversy.

More than 1,000 women and families have been affected by the crisis.
