An investigation is underway into the cause of death of a young Cork woman

Majella Duffy travelled to Africa to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in aid of charity

The 35 year old had made the trip with a group from Ireland on July 8 to tackle the highest peak in Africa.

It's understood she became unwell at an altitude of 4,000 metres and died of unknown causes while being treated by a doctor at the scene.

A spokesperson for the group she travelled with has released a statement offering their condolences.

The Department of Foreign Affairs says it's aware of the case and will be assisting the family with arrangements for repatriation.
