An Post's Decision To Close The Cork Mail Centre Is To Be Raised Directly With The Communications Minister
The closure would see the loss of 240 jobs
Cork Solidarity TD Mick Barry is requesting a face to face meeting with Minister Richard Bruton to discuss the future of the operation at Little Island
It comes after yesterday's Dail vote in which two thirds of the House supported Deputy barry's motion calling on the Government to intervene to prevent the closure of the Cork Mail Centre
An Post says the Cork Centre is operating below 25% capacity and says it will offer exit packages, redeployment opportunities and will assist employees in finding alternative work.
Minister Richard Bruton has already told the Dáil that the government can not intervene in the commercial management of the company.
However speaking to RedFM News, Deputy Mick Barry says the Minister cannot ignore this issue
