Army available to assist in possible flood relief measures in East Cork
The Defence Minister made the announcement ahead of Storm Brian
Met Eireann has upgraded the weather alert for Cork to Orange which is expected to remain in place until Saturday, with Cork city on flood alert as up to 50 mm of rain is expected to fall.
Residents on the city's low lying streets especially around Morrissons Island, South Terrace and Wandsford Quay are being urged to take the usual precautions.
East Cork has suffered severe flooding issues in the past few years, with parts of the N25 Cork to Youghal road, the road to Cobh, Ladysbridge to Garryvoe, main street Carrigtwohill and Whitegate currently affected by flooding.
Speaking to RedFM news Cork East TD Pat Buckley says the army is prepped and ready to go.
