Ballinspittle Garda Station Is Due To Re-Open In 4 Months, Just 6 Years After It Was Closed

The station was closed part of a nationwide money saving exercise by the Justice Department

Nine Garda stations across the city and county were closed in a move that the Government insisted was in an effort to free up Gardaí for frontline work elsewhere.

However the move led to much unrest among rural dwellers who felt more vulnerable without their local garda station and claimed that it led to a rise in rural crime.

A review by the Policing Authority on the closures which showed that the State saved just 4 thousand euro a year from the closure of each Garda station recommended that some of these stations could be re-opened.

The garda station in Ballinspittle is earmarked to re-open this September.
