BOI: Further Mortgage Interest Rate Increases Possible
Bank of Ireland says it's not ruling out further mortgage interest rate increases as the bank attempts to return to profitability. Its Chief Executive Richie Boucher also says the bank does not have a policy of writing down mortgage debt for people who are in arrears. He made the comments after results showed the bank sustained pre-tax losses of 2.1 billion euro last year. Mr Boucher said Bank of Ireland will continue to review the price of its mortgage products. But he said further interest rate increases for variable rate customers cannot be ruled out.
