Boy, 7, remains in critical condition after hit-and-run in East Cork

A file will be prepared for the DPP after a man was released without charge last night in connection with a hit-and-run incident which left a seven-year-old boy fighting for his life in hospital. The incident happened in Ballymacoda near Youghal when the boy was struck by a car that failed to stop as he was playing near his home around lunchtime yesterday. The emergency services were alerted and the boy was rushed by ambulance to Cork University Hospital where he remains in intensive care in a critical condition. Gardaí began an investigation and traced the car to a 48-year-old old local man, who was later released without charge.
