Brendan's Law approved in the Dail
Drink-drivers who cause fatal car crashes will be banned from the road until they appear in court.
The cabinet has approved new legislation called Brendan’s law after Christina Donnelly, Brendan's mother campaigned for seven years for stronger penalties for those caught drink driving.
24 year old Brendan and his friend Lee Salkeld were killed by Anthony Long, a drunk driver, in Cork in 2009.
Anthony Long was able to continue driving during the 14 months between the crash and his court case where he received 5 years.
Shane Ross, the transport minister, announced yesterday that it would be added as an amendment to a bail bill.
