Bus Eireann workers to consider new cost cutting deal

Bus Eireann workers are considering a new deal on cost cutting at the company after pickets were lifted yesterday following a three week old strike.
The Labour Court is proposing that 200 staff should be made redundant, as well as pay cuts for higher earners and reforms of work practices.
Unions said members will vote on the proposals and the result will be known in a number of weeks but there has been a mixed reaction to the recommendation.
Bus services across Cork are back to normal since this morning but in the coming weeks, Bus Eireann drivers will be balloted on the Labour Court recommendations aimed at ending the dispute.
Professor in Employment Law at Maynooth University, Michael Doherty, has been reviewing the deal reached with the unions and he believes it may be enough to get through the ballot.
