Bus strike looms

School students across Cork could be left stranded later this month, if bus drivers vote in favour of strike action today. Bus Eireann drivers are expected to down tools on May 12th next after the company confirmed that it's pushing ahead with a 5 million euro cost cutting plan. Unions at Bus Eireann say they have been left with no other option but to ballot for strike action as they have already rejected the company's cost cutting plan Nearly 2 and half thousand children around the country use regular Bus Eireann services to get to school each day and they will be left stranded if the strike kicks in Bus Eireann says that in previous disputes school transport services weren't hit because of the need to ensure children can get to school. The company has appealed to trade unions to make sure this tradition is maintained
