Call for review of taxi ranks in Cork city

Cork taxi drivers are calling for a review of taxi ranks in the city. It comes after the installation of controversial bicycle lanes last year which saw the relocation of two of the city’s busiest taxi ranks on Washington Street. They say while revised proposals for a new taxi rank was agreed there's still only a temporary arrangement in place on Washington Street to faciliate large crowds which is causing difficulties especially at night time. Cork drivers meanwhile didn't join a demonstration by their Dublin counterparts today who were protesting over changes to the fare structure which are intended to increase fares. Speaking to RedFM News Cork taxi driver Derry Coughlan of the Irish Taxi Drivers Federation says the planned fare changes won't impact as severely on them due to population difference - but some change is still needed:
