That's according to the Wives & Partners of the Defence Forces, who say they are not surprised that the number of personnel has hit its' lowest level in 30 years...
Nearly 3,000 staff have left in the last 5 years alone leaving the Naval Service only enough people to run seven of its eight ships..
A series of protest have taken place in recent times at barracks across the country including Collins Barracks here in Cork and Haulbowline Naval base highlighting members poor pay and conditions
Shelley Cotter from the Wives & Partners of the Defence Forces group told RedFM News that she believes a change will have to come if falling retention is to be addressed
