Calls being made to extradite the dentist who killed Cecil the lion

It's understood the American tourist is currently in hiding.

Prosecutors in Zimbabwe are understood to have started the process to extradite the American dentist who killed Cecil the lion.

The country's environment minister says he wants Walter Palmer to return to the country to face charges.

He claims Palmer - who's in hiding - broke the law by "financing an illegal hunt".

Meanwhile President Obama's considering a petition of 140-thousand people in the US calling for his extradition.

White House spokesperson Josh Earnest says illegal poaching was on the President's agenda on his recent trip to Africa.
