Calls for a fresh approach to the homeless crisis

There's a call for public spaces to be used to help tackle the homelessness crisis. The Minister for the Environment, representatives from charities working on behalf of the homeless, NAMA and local authorities are holding a summit on the issue this afternoon. The forum was called following the death of homeless man Jonathan Corrie a short distance from Leinster House earlier this week. Here in Cork, the situation has been described as 'at crisis point' after recent figures revealed a 62% jump in the number of people sleeping on the streets in the city. A rise is also been reported in the number of families forced into homelessness Alice Leahy from the homeless charity TRUST says public property can be used to provide accommodation: Press PLAY button above to listen to the audio
