Calls for calm amid introduction of a new traffic layout on Patrick Street
There were reports of traffic gridlock yesterday.
Motorists trapped in 2 hour traffic jams on the outskirts of the city criticised the lack of information surrounding the restrictions and re-routing of vehicles.
Long delays were reported along Merchants Quay, Lavitts Quay and Washington street.
The new traffic restrictions means Patrick Street has effectively become a bus lane between the hours of 3pm and 6:30pm, seven days a week with private cars banned during these hours
Chairman of the cities historic Middle Parish George Patterson has lived on Gratton Street for 15 years and he told RedFM News that the confusion led to traffic mayhem in their locality.
